Jehovah’s Witnesses invite millions to share in the most significant event of the year
Congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses around the globe are participating in a special effort to invite all peace-loving people to join them for a very special occasion. The invitation being distributed welcomes friends, neighbors, family members, and the public to the annual event that this year falls on Monday, April 2.
On that evening over six and a half million of Jehovah’s Witnesses around the world will meet together with many other millions of invited guests in recognition of the last evening meal that Jesus had with his disciples. This is in harmony with Jesus’ instructions: “Keep doing this in remembrance of me.” Unleavened bread and red wine will be passed at each meeting, and the significance of this ceremony will be explained.—Luke 22:19; Mark 14:22-24.
For many people this event is known as the Lord’s Supper, or the Lord’s Evening Meal. Jehovah’s Witnesses call it the Memorial of Christ’s death, and it is the most important event in their yearly calendar. It is a vital reminder of the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made in behalf of sinful mankind when he died. (John 3:16; 1 John 2:2) After his final meal, Jesus Christ, the greatest man who ever lived, was arrested and later died on a stake as though he were a common criminal.—John 19:17, 18.
As with all meetings of Jehovah’s Witnesses, the public is warmly welcomed. Please look for your personal copy of the invitation or check with Jehovah’s Witnesses locally for more information on this most sacred event.
