Witnesses launch 2005 conventions nationwide
NEW YORK—This week, Jehovah’s Witnesses will hold the first four of 227 convention programs in major cities across the United States. For 2005, the theme of their three-day convention is “Godly Obedience,” based on several Bible texts. (Deuteronomy 12:28; Jeremiah 7:23; Romans 6:17; 2 Corinthians 2:9)
The first conventions scheduled for the United States will be held May 27-29, 2005, in Bakersfield, California; Long Beach, California; Portland, Maine; and West Palm Beach, Florida. Subsequently, the series will continue throughout the country each week through September 11, ultimately being held in 69 U.S. cities. “The convention is an outstanding highlight for all who attend,” states William Van De Wall, U.S. branch representative. “We were very pleased with the turnout for our ‘Walk With God’ series this past year, and we are confident of similar enthusiasm for this new series.”
In the United States, the program will be presented in 15 languages. All are invited to attend free of charge, since there is no admission fee or collections taken at any convention or meeting of Jehovah’s Witnesses. There are now over 1,000,000 Witnesses in the United States.
